Do I need a referral to see Dr Chen?
A referral is strongly recommended. Patients without a referral will not be able to claim any benefits from Medicare for consultations and/or procedures. A referral also helps ensure that your GP has assessed your concern and can refer you to an appropriate specialist.
How long does a referral last?
GP referrals - 12 months. Specialist referrals - 3 months.
Are any other dermatologists available?
No. This is a solo-practice. Dr Chen is a male dermatologist.
What languages does Dr Chen consult in?
Dr Chen consults in English only. Please note that the use of family members and/or friends to assist in translation is not ideal. There are potentially serious issues relating to privacy and miscommunication that may arise.
How long are consultations?
Consultations vary in length depending on the issue which the patient has been referred for. This is usually the primary issue the patient and/or GP is concerned about. While some patients may want to discuss more than one issue, or something not on the referral, a subsequent or follow-up appointment may be required to deal with other issues raised.
Does Dr Chen see children?
Dr Chen sees children with common skin conditions e.g. eczema, psoriasis, acne. Children with highly specialised and/or complex medical disorders are likely to be referred on to a paediatric dermatologist.
Is the practice wheelchair accessible?
Yes. There are lifts from the ground floor to the second floor where the practice is located.
Is parking available at the practice?
There is limited visitor parking available on-site, which varies in availability. Street parking is also available. The Bella Vista Metro station is located within walking distance.
Do you offer cosmetic procedures?
This practice does not do any cosmetic procedures (e.g. lasers, fillers and Botox).
Is this a bulk-billing practice?
No, this is not a bulk-billing practice.
Can I claim Medicare for the consultation and/or procedures?
Australian citizens and permanent residents with a valid referral will be able to claim part of the fees from Medicare. We can process this claim for you.
Can I use my private health fund?
No, health funds do not cover private consulting rooms.
I need to take time off work. Can you provide a medical certificate?
Yes, we can provide you with a medical certificate on request.
Do you deal with Work Cover?
We do not deal with Work Cover consultations.
Do I need to wear a mask?
Wearing a mask is not required, but you are welcome to. If however patients are experiencing flu-like symptoms, we ask that you do not attend your appointment, and call us to reschedule.
